discovery tours

At each of our Trans National Meetings, since our initial BIM group meeting TNM1 in Madrid (thus at TNM2, 3, 4 & 5, and at our Joint Staff Training Event), we were able to experience a range of different Discovery Events, planned, and facilitated, by our Local Host Organisations. All Participants, attending from each of the BIM Partner organisations, at each of our Meetings, were thus able to experience, enjoy and report back upon the Discoveries they saw, and feed back those experiences, and knowledge, into preparation of their own Discovery Events with their Local Community partners.

As participants ourselves, in these Experiences, we recorded Film evidence of what we found, and experienced, as we went through each Discovery.

This valuable record of the Discovery Events, in action, was compiled into a short film, for each Discovery Event, to serve as Evidence, for our Host’s, as to how their Discovery worked with real life participants. It did, however, also afford these Discoveries, which might otherwise appear, here, only in a Text based context, a more visual record, and illumination of the Discoveries to provide you, our End User, with a more engaging stimulus to get out there… and find out what YOU can Discover!

In our TNM2 in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland, in June 2019 we were able to experience, and participate in, two distinct Discovery Events, based in and around the historic Walls of Derry/Londonderry City. This was the first time that we had on opportunity to experience a Discovery Event in action. Here is a short film about what we experienced.
During our Joint Staff Training Event Meeting in Madrid, in September 2019, we had a chance to experience a Discovery Event in the “Lavapies” District of Madrid. Participants were tasked with making a commemorative visual gesture to reflect upon the loss of life suffered in one of Europes worst recent terrorist atrocities which occurred in and around the Atocha area (and in other parts of Madrid). In exploring the area they were tasked with finding the “Sound” of Atocha – recording sounds of every day life in the area and merging those Sounds with a recording of their gesture of solidarity. Here’s what they produced.
During our Joint Staff Training Event Meeting in Madrid, in September 2019, we had a chance to experience a Discovery Event in the “Lavapies” District of Madrid. Participants were tasked with recording what Expressive Voices of Community they they could find in an area with encroaching gentrification. Here’s how they got on!
During our Joint Staff Training Event Meeting in Madrid, in September 2019, we had a chance to experience a Discovery Event in the “Lavapies” District of Madrid. Centred in a Covered market in the Barrio participants were asked to reflect both in Words and Song on their sense of, and the importance of, Community. Here’s how they got on!
During our Joint Staff Training Event Meeting in Madrid, in September 2019, we had a chance to experience a Discovery Event in the “Lavapies” District of Madrid. This Discovery Event centred on Irish poet Seamus Heaney who lived in this District of Madrid in the late 1960’s. Our Discovery was to perform a Reading of his Poem Summer 1969 and come up with a Street performance to represent his Words. Here’s how they got on!
During our Joint Staff Training Event Meeting in Madrid, in September 2019, we had a chance to experience a Discovery Event in the “Lavapies” District of Madrid. This Discovery Event was centred around the “Cine Dore” a Cinema in Madrid from the Silent Age of cinema, still going strong today. We were tasked with making a short Silent Movie about Cinema Goers arriving for a Show. Here’s how they got on!
During our Joint Staff Training Event Meeting in Madrid, in September 2019, we had a chance to experience a Discovery Event in the “Malasana” District of Madrid. Here’s how they got on!

During our Trans National Meeting in Marseille, in October 2019, we had a chance to experience a Discovery Event in the “Le Panier” District of Marseille. Here’s how they got on!
During our Trans National Meeting in Marseille we were tasked to come up with a one shot, one take, Trailer video on the Theme of Discovery. Here is the Video produced by one of the Groups.

In January 2020 at our Trans National Meeting in Madrid we had an opportunity to experience a Discovery Event in the Quintana District of Madrid. We had an opportunity, too, to see, practically, for the first time, the “BiMGo” means of Discovery. Participants were given a series of potential Discoveries. With the List of potential Discoveries in hand they were directed to certain Discoveries that they had to attend to on during their Experience, whilst others could be chosen or selected, from a range of alternatives, by the Participants themselves. Here is how they got on!
In September 2021, in Northern Ireland, a group of visiting Spanish & German Teachers sought out the Discoveries to be found in The Sandy Row Discovery Event. “Wee Buns”, Kilts and just a few of the little People awaited them….Here is what they got up to!
In our Final Trans National Meeting in Nicosia in October 2021 we were able to experience two very distinct, but connected Discovery Events – one based South of the UN Buffer Zone in Nicosia, and the other one based North of the Green Line that crosses the City. Rather than record these two Discovery Events separately the resultant film, here, merges the two Discovery Events into one, non linear, film, whereby each alternate scene depicted, quite literally, crosses Borders…
